By Roz Morris, Managing Director, TV News London Ltd
Recently a number of clients have come to us asking for media interview training after they have received invitations to give broadcast interviews, but they have (reluctantly) turned down these opportunities.
This has been very disappointing, and they don’t want this to happen again in future, so they have come to us to solve this problem for them.
The media is now a 24 hour global business, and potential spokespeople are worried that without media training and guidance from media professionals like TV News London they will not do their best under the tough spotlight that a media interview provides.
In my experience of providing media interview training for the past 30 years, the biggest worries people have about giving media interviews are not knowing how to answer every possible factual question and not knowing how to handle difficult questions.
People worry a lot about not knowing what to say and the risk of looking and sounding stupid.
This puts them off the entire idea of doing a media interview and so they refuse all requests to give up their time to take on interviews.
Plus, they also fear the possible additional pressures from potential social media criticism if they make mistakes.
They are quite right to be cautious about taking on broadcast media interviews if they have had no advice on how these interviews work.
But turning down media interview requests can be costly
Your organisation will miss out on important marketing and PR opportunities, which competitors can take advantage of, and all simply because you have not selected and trained some of your people to represent you as spokespeople.
Our clients tell us our media interview training with its 5 point plan for success helps them to practise and deliver effective media interviews every time.
